Our rugs are crafted from premium natural fibres—wool or cotton—each with unique qualities. Expect slight variations in size, texture, or colour due to natural handcrafting processes.

  • Routine Vacuuming

Vacuum weekly using low suction and a flat-head nozzle. Avoid rotating brushes or powerheads, as they can damage the pile. Increase frequency in high-traffic areas to prevent debris buildup.

  • Rotate Regularly for Even Wear

Rotate your rug every 3–6 months to distribute foot traffic and sunlight exposure evenly, preventing uneven wear and colour fading.

  • Use a Rug Pad

A quality rug pad not only prevents slipping but also protects the rug fibres by absorbing impact and reducing friction. It also enhances underfoot comfort and prolongs the rug’s lifespan.

Shedding, Pilling & Loose Threads

Shedding is normal, especially upon initial use. Trim loose fibres with scissors—never pull them. Pilling can also occur near high-traffic zones and can be managed with gentle trimming or vacuuming.

Prevent Fading & Sun Damage

Prolonged sunlight exposure can alter colours. Avoid direct sun where possible, and rotate your rug regularly to ensure uniform fading.

Annual Deep Cleaning

Take the rug outdoors to shake or beat it lightly to remove embedded dust. For a deeper clean, consult professionals experienced with natural fibre rugs—ideally once a year. Avoid steam cleaning and machine washing unless explicitly stated safe by Elan & Earth.

Moth Prevention

Natural fibre rugs attract moths. Regular vacuuming helps prevent infestations by removing eggs and larvae. If moth activity is suspected, seek professional treatment—avoid mothballs and strong chemicals.

Proper Storage

When storing, roll—never fold—the rug. Store in a cool, dry place, wrapped in breathable material. Reverse-roll if shipping creases appear to help the rug relax back to shape.
